Online PR Services Target Young Men

Young men have been found to be more positive than women towards their current situation making them new targets for online PR services, new research shows.

The conclusions found from the study by Giant Realm on 850 young men between the ages 10-34 revealed 29% believe ‘things are going great’, 44% report things as ‘OK’ and 16% say they need to change their lives.

Furthermore, 40% are employed in ‘career’ work rather than okay-for-now-jobs and only 14% are unemployed.  Young men are also seen as the generation to get advice from as 58% reported their family and friends ask their opinions on games and 77% on movies.

“Young men are a resilient group, optimistic and fairly positive of their current state,” said James Green, Giant Realm president.

“They have good jobs, they’re motivated, they’re social, they’re spending money and they influence their family and friends.

“The fact that young men see themselves as being in a good place is good news for advertisers who target this important group to promote the products guys love.”

However, it should be noted that over half of those surveyed still have their parents pay part of their bills and about 45% still live at home.

What does this mean for online PR services?

Where previously women have been the sex typically targeted by PR organisations and advertisers due to their influence on household groceries, gifts and expenses, young men have a better attitude towards spending.  They have become more involved with fashion and this, combined with a more laid-back and positive attitude on current circumstances, their spending habits are changing.

As more and more people go online, using search engines and social networking websites like Twitter and Facebook, all PR services should have website optimisation at their core.  At Search News Media we believe that PR and SEO go hand in hand and are interlinked.
