As rumours circulate around the internet and on social media websites claiming that Simon Cowell has been using SEO tactics to ensure that only positive stories rank when his name is Googled, we look at what it means for the SEO industry and what other celebrities could do with some of Cowell’s SEO X-Factor.
When search results appear of Simon Cowell, positive news about the X Factor judge far outweighs the negative ones. But is it SEO at work, or simply a fact that Cowell is generally well liked?
It’s debateable, but it does raise some interesting questions and highlights perfectly the way that SEO and PR can and do work hand in hand together.

3 Eminem – Or is it perhaps counter-productive to gain positive publicity where your main image in the limelight is that of a bad boy?
4 Lindsay Lohan- Having recently been released from jail serving only 14 days of her 90 day sentence for drugs this young star has had a troubled time of it lately and could certainly do with getting back on the good side of the public – positive stories hmmmm…, perhaps the time she starred in the Parent Trap?
5 Naomi Campbell – After the blood diamond situation Ms Campbell is a supermodel with a history of outlandish statements including the fashioning of fur – a bit of top heavy positive media could do her image a world of good.
6 Tiger Woods – This golfing chap may have no choice but to use his celebrity status to serve as income after a disappointing performance last season, also the fact that he cheated on his misses could do with being hidden under the covers – or on page three of Yahoo!
7 Charlie Sheen – In rehab as well, but luckily for him, being the highest paid actor on US TV means his institution is a lot more swanky than Lohan’s.
8 Mel Gibson – Went to court for hurling racial and sexist abuse at Russian ex-girlfriend Oksana – if SEO can work for Mr Gibson it can do just about anything.
